Dissension begins amongst the ranks.
Jay
Another week, another drama. Just kidding really.
Over the life of this band, in particular, the time since we started playing together again, our vocalist, Ben, has taken it upon himself to post a weekly blog on the website. Last week he was a little behind the ball, not posting until Friday, the night before this weeks rehearsal. Anyway, it seems he’s had enough of doing it all on his own and he suggested that we all have a go. At this suggestion we all refused and said that he should do it, because he’s been doing such a good job of it. He was having none of this, at which point the other three members of the band, Rob, Trev, and myself started to discuss who should do it this week.
All of us still not keen, we never actually came to a decision during rehearsal yesterday. As the drummer and the hardest working member of the band (if I do say so myself), I decided to give the other guys a break just this once. Their time will come.
Week six started well. We played once through the three songs from Initialise and our new one, Who’s To Blame, before going to lunch. All four songs are sounding good and our playing is getting much tighter, but we still have a bit of work to do before we have a gig worthy set.
Once we got back from lunch we decided to take on the daunting task of reinterpreting the Doors song, People Are Strange. Most of the session this week was spent listening to the guitar tracks; trying to decide the best way to play the song and the best tuning to use. Once we’d sort of decided on some of the basics of how to do it, we went into our rehearsal room and started to nut it out.
We did fairly well, deciding to play the beginning of the song close to the original before going balls out for the second verse. We decided we’d back off for the 1st solo before playing the rest of the song in our nutter metal head style. We got half way through the song before we had to pack up, because our bassist, Trev, and our guitarist, Rob, both had to be somewhere else.
We got a fair bit done on People Are Strange, but didn’t play many of our other songs, or get any more work done on what we’re writing for Kynan’s b’day gig. That’s the way the cookie crumbles and there is always next week.
Peace y’all, Jay signing out until next time.
