Tighter than a…?

June 24th, 2007

Back to our normal start time of 11:30 this week, and having the whole afternoon means we can really get a lot done. Who’s To Blame got a bit of a tweak and we decided on how to end it, so we’ve got our 4 songs completed for the set we’re hopefully going to play in late August. It doesn’t sound like many, but it’s our first gig and we want to have these songs as tight as we can get them, so the next 6 weeks or so will basically be spent rehearsing and tweaking the songs until we can play them perfectly first time, every time; I’m confident that we’ll be able to put on a good show.

Rob’s been working hard on getting us a good rehearsal setup as well; we don’t have a proper P.A. for the vocals and we weren’t able to turn up  my vocals loud enough to hear without a lot of feedback, so he’s hooked up headphones for everybody and it works much better. I no longer have to wreck my throat just to be able to hear myself sing, and it’s meant I can use my whole vocal range. Not sure how we’re going to handle the night of the concert though, there’s the possibility of hiring a P.A but that brings an element of uncertainty to the equipment setup which Rob isn’t quite comfortable with, understandably.

How much are half decent P.As to buy? I might have to do some research.

It’s Rob’s birthday today, happy birthday! Here’s to the next 26 years of shredding!

Rob had a birthday lunch on yesterday so it was only a short band practise this week, but we focused and were still quite productive. The three Initialise songs are sounding much tighter; I’m Ready is just about at performance standards I would think. Heavy Space, being the most complicated song, requires the most work, but it’s sounding heaps better.

We spent a fair chunk of time on Who’s To Blame, rewrote the chorus and tightened up a few bits. Now all we need is an ending, hah. I think by the end of next week we’ll definitely have the complete song done, and we’ll be moving to rehearsing them all and really getting them polished.

Rock On!

I’m going to start blogging our band rehearsals each week, just so we can have a bit of a record of our progression as we go along.

This week went quite awesomely, we practised for 3 or 4 hours and, despite the distraction of constant references to certain shock pictures which will remain nameless, we managed to get the three Initialise songs up to the point where we can play through them consistently. They’re sounding good too.

We also got time to work on our new track, Who’s To Blame, which Trevor, Jay and I started writing a couple of months ago. We played through a few times so Rob could get the feel for it, and then he started riffing away, instantly bringing some power to the song. Soon we might even have an ending! This song is much more complex than anything on Initialise (anything we’ve written actually) so will probably take a while to come together, but it seems to be forming well and I think it’s going to be a great track, and a great indication of what’s to come!

YES! Kurodust is officially back and rocking, with our first band practise since Rob got back from Japan and since Silverpath on Saturday. We should probably also make the official announcement about our new bass player, Trevor! He’s been rocking out with Jay and I over the Kurodust hiatus and was so good we invited him into Kurodust!

We also have our first gig planned! Sure, it’s just Jay’s brother’s 25th birthday, but hey, we’ve got to start somewhere! We’re going to be working on polishing up the three tracks from Initialise as well as busting out a new one.

In more important news, I finally 5 starred all of Hard Mode in Guitar Hero 2! (what, it’s rock related, right?)

Here are some totally not planned photos from our comeback band rehearsal:
